What's Wrong with Uggs?

Guest Blogger Claire has some thoughts for us about Uggs!
There has been some recent stipulation that the Ugg boot is becoming more and more unfashionable. The once highly popular footwear choice for many girls seems to be taking a turn for worst and heading into the fashion hall of shame. For years, these sheepskin boots have been a saviour to our poor feet that constantly take a beating from high heels and pinching shoes. So why now are we falling out with the loveable Ugg boots?

Celebrities are often seen wearing their beloved Ugg boots when looking a little less than perfect. Whether they are out walking their dogs, picking their kids up or just heading out to the shops, whenever we see an a lister on one of their off days, this is usually when they are also wearing their Ugg boots. Perhaps this is why we are starting to go off the footwear brand? Watching stars wear our comfortable boot choices when they aren’t looking at their finest may have now put us off for life.

Ugg boots are our usual go to footwear when we want something comfortable to wear on our feet. After many nights out wearing high heels and long days wearing pinching shoes, the Ugg boot was once a saviour to our long suffering feet. What is wrong with throwing on a pair when you have had a long day at work or a heavy partying session the night before?

Honestly, I think many of us will keep wearing our Ugg boots for the comfort factor alone. They may not be the most glamorous shoes in the world of footwear but among the many high heels, stilettos, wedges and sandals that are about, they are a relief to many women who want something comfortable to wear.

AW12 Style with Designer Shoes

Claire Hunter, a regular contributor to our blog,
has some tips for the upcoming season!
Have you seen the latest looks on offer? Checked out all the current collections? Scoured the net for pictures from the AW12 (autumn / winter 2012) catwalk shows? Well then you are one prepared fashionista, just like all the designer stores up and down the country and across the web. Search for any kind of clothing shop and you will come across a plethora of styles and looks that have taken inspiration from the autumn / winter 2012 trends. If you are after updating your wardrobe or fancy having a little splurge on some of the new seasons looks, then go for it. Right now it is a good a time as ever to revitalize your style.

With the colder weather, most of us change our looks anyway. Different makeup looks, nail colors and hair styles all come with the change of the season. Bright pink lips turn red and sultry, black eyeliner is chosen in favor of bold eye shadows and blondes all seem to burn into brunettes and red heads. It’s like instinct, perhaps it is the weather that does it to us, or at least we can blame it on that when we are having a spend up on new styles.

The new season looks are looking beautiful too. Autumn always brings a stunning selection of cozy clothing and comfortable fashion. Which is something we all love don’t we? Footwear has also had an AW12 overhaul, yet with a few summer looks crossing over. The trainer wedges are here to stay for another season as well as the studded boots that have been everywhere the past few months. But of course some new looks have come to the forefront of the fashion scene.

The party heels are in, ready in preparation for the Christmas gatherings and some casual boots which will be ideal for autumn walks and winter strolls. Imagine them teamed with leggings, woolly jumpers, coats, scarves and knitted hats, perfect. Check any womens designer shoes collection and you will come across these looks and many more. Autumn / winter is going to be a great season for style yet again!

How To Wear Your Shoes

Knowing how to wear the right shoes with
an outfit is important. Here are some ideas from
a regular contributor to our blog Claire Hunter

As you know there are many different types of shoes on the market. Heels, boots, slippers, flats, wedges, stilettos, courts, the list is endless. So how do you know which shoes to wear with each of your outfits? Well once you have pulled out all of your clothing, shoes and accessories, you can read here on how to wear each pair and with what type of clothing.

Wedges
Now I would consider wedges to be more of a summer shoe. So with these I would choose perhaps a summery dress, denim jacket, perhaps a fedora hat and a small day time clutch bag. Finish with some cute bracelets and you are on to winning summer time outfit. Match the color of your wedges with your dress or bag and you will look even more on trend during those sunny months of the year.

Courts or Pumps
High heeled courts or pumps are perfect for nights out or formal evening occasions. If you are off to a party or just a few clubs and bars for the night, wear with a body con dress in your favorite color. Mixing colors will add a little more fun to your look so be bold with something bright. If you are heading to something a little more formal then perhaps opt for a midi or mid length dress in a subtle shade such as black, navy or dark purple. Choose a clutch bag in a matching color to the shoes and accessorize with small pieces of jewelery.

Ballet Flats
Probably the most comfortable shoes of them all are the ballet flats or pumps as some people like to call them. They will always look stylish during the day worn with a pair of skinny jeans, a simple t shirt and a blazer jacket. Finish with a large oversized tote bag and if it is sunny out, pop some super huge shades on for a touch of glam style. Gabor shoes have some fantastic pairs on offer at the moment that feature in all the latest shades.

Boots
Winter was made for boots. From ankle length to knee high, all styles look great worn during the colder months of the year. Wear with a floaty skirt and a fitted top for a day to night look. Accessorize with patterned scarves, tights and cute hats during the day for a casual appearance. For a glam night look add some sparkly jewelery and a small clutch bag.

Confessions of a Shoe-a-Holic

Welcome back to Kat, the guest blogger who shared with
in a previous post why she is team boot.
If you enjoyed her perspective and writing style in that post,
 you'll absolutely love this one!
My name is Kat and I'm a shoe-a-holic. There really is no other way to put it, my obsession with shoes has reached the point where my wardrobe strains when I close it and my other half is scared to open the door in-case he’s attacked by a ballet pump avalanche. I have shoes in every color, style and shape; from sandals to sky high heels the list is endless. Today I had a look through my ever expanding collection and separated them into the shoes I wear and the ones I don’t. Only five pairs made it into my ‘everyday’ wear category whilst the ‘never worn but aren’t they pretty?’ pile needed its own room.  I know I’m not alone when it comes to hoarding pairs of shoes so I’ve decided to look at why I do it, is it just because I’m a sucker for well made heel or am I mentally preparing myself for any possible event that I may need footwear for?

One of the main trends I discovered when raiding my shoe closet is novelty shoes. Point me towards a pair of shoes with a strawberry pattern or a cat face on the front and I will be handing over my bank card quicker than you can say ‘gimmick’. I do have my fair share of comfy shoes like my trusty Lotus Boots, but another common theme is the ankle crunching, blister inducing heel. I have skyscraper heels and towering wedges in almost every color yet when I do wear them I have to pack a spare pair of flats in my bag to inevitably change into after half an hour.

I’ve decided that from now on my shoe purchasing will be a much more controlled affair, perhaps with stringent comfort and quality checks and multiple trips to the shoe shop. Ah who am I kidding, there’s a pair of 6 inch leopard print wedges with my name on them!

Toppling off my wedge!

For some time now, I have been seeing wedge shoes everywhere I go. Usually when this type of thing happens, I take it as a message that I should wear them.

I've seen so many amazing pairs of wedges on ITSDF and then again when I walked past (yes, my miserly husband was with me, so I walked PAST) a shoe store with an amazing display of the most beautiful wedges I have ever seen. They were floral in all my favorite colors with amazing designs that transported me into girly heaven for a moment.
MIA - Papparazzi (Wheat Elastic) - Footwear
Some friends that we have not seen in a long, long time moved down to the coast at about the same time as we did and that's how we caught up with each other again. They invited us over to their home for an early dinner and to introduce the kids to one another.

That's how I decided to wear my (only) pair of wedges. For some crazy reason I simply can't walk in platforms. Give me Lady Gaga's highest heels and I'll walk in them, no problem. But platforms are a nightmare.

Sperry Top-Sider - Shoreham Wedge (Turquoise Madras Canvas) - Footwear
On arrival, my friend showed us around the house which happens to be massive. Her shoe closet is the size of my bedroom and houses around 500 pairs of shoes.

Finally we reached the lounge which leads to the deck where we were going to sit and I was so relieved that I increased my speed to get to safety on the slippery, gleaming tiles.

Then I slipped!!! I was gutted. One more step and I would've been out there safely. ONE STEP!

Thank goodness I had a cocktail in my hand and there was no way I was going to drop that. So somehow I managed to stay upright and I did not spill a single drop.
Lilly Pulitzer - Resort Chic Wedge Metallic (Chocolate) - Footwear
That's the end of my love affair with wedges (for the foreseeable future!).

Do you think wedges are comfy? More importantly - how do you walk in them? I'd love to hear your advice!
